Stanley Theater in Jersey City

The first stop on our New York trip was to the Stanley Theater in Jersey City (NJ). This theater was built in the early 1900's as the crown jewel of the chain at the time. In the 1970's it was closed down left dormant for years. In the early 1980's Jehovah's Witnesses purchased the building and, after 14 months of planning, in 8 months it was completely renovated from top to bottom. The total cost for purchase and renovation was around 4 million from all voluntary donations. If you ever get a chance to visit it you'll be impressed. Stanley theater entrance, free tours open to the public. Second floor open to first floor. You can kind of see that huge chandler in the background. Actual theater inside was designed to be like a Italian street scene. The ceiling has a blue sky with clouds on it. When they turn out the lights small lights that resemble a starry night can be seen as well as moving clouds. My wife and I outside the Stanley theater
