Data Recovery Utility
Last Friday a user here at the company brought in their laptop system. While installing a copy of the Acronis True Image 8.0 software and setting up the Secure Zone, the drive failed on me. I was no longer able to boot to Windows on the system.
I tried a number of utilities (Acronis True Image 8 boot disk, Paragon Hard Drive, Paragon Hard Disk Manager, Windows XP CD Recovery Console), all could see the partition with the users data, but none could access it. To make matters worse, as you probably guessed, the user had NO backup of their files.
I was finally able to recover all of the system files using Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS and a Norwood Micro 2.5" USB 2.0 external hard drive enclosure from CompUSA
Once I recovered all of the users files, I re-installed XP SP2, MS Office and copied back the users files. Probably the best $155 I've spent lately (and I've spent a lot!)
