I really like my new job, enjoy coming to work and always have plenty to keep me busy. Lately my manager has been asking me to do some web programming projects to use my experience in doing that when I was consulting. Problem is I'm so swamped with the Network Admin stuff I don't have time, although I do miss development to a certain extent.
Yesterday he received approval for my request to hire a part-time person to assist me. The person will fill the role of "Desktop Support Technician" and will trouble-shoot problems with printers, software (MS Office & Windows) and the grunt work of moving hardware and installing it. Thus freeing me up to do some development work along with the Network Admin work.
In doing this, my position is changing here, both into a Network Admin/Developer role as well as a manager role (over the new part-time person). While we are starting to look for someone now, all of these changes take affect on Feb 1, 2006. So in a way I received a promotion!
