First Virtual Server Running!

Well I have my first virtual server running on VMware GSX Server here at work. The server is our internal Windows Software Update Services server and was formerly running on an old Compaq Proliant PL1600 server. Instead of using the VMware Physical-To-Virtual Assistant I performed the process manually (for one reason the P2V Assist boot CD wouldn't boot the server) using a few different software pieces. First, I downloaded a copy of Bart's PE, then I purchased and downloading a copy of Acronis TrueImage which has a Bart PE plug-in. I then downloaded the latest version of the Compaq network drivers for the Proliant PL1600 server. Following the directions on Bart PE's site to add additional drivers I created a bootable CD that would successfully load the network card. I then used the TrueImage plug-in to image the server's hard disks to a network share, then used the Acronis TrueImage bootable CD in the VM I created in GSX Server to restore the image to the virtual hard disk. The whole process took about 45 minutes to complete but a week on and off to get to that point. I plan on converting a second server on Friday night.
