I've been working for the past 5 days (4 of which have been vacation) on trying to get our web server SSL certificate renewed before it stopped working at our web application would be unusable (as it requires SSL). I've learned a few things from this very frustrating and painful experience, namely:
- Thawte as a Certificate Authority to purchase from and receive support from is absolutely, positively, horrible. I will never deal with them again. I've talked to a minimum of 15 different people via phone, their extremely poor online support chat and via email. I do not and never will recommend them!
- MSU resells SSL certificate at a significant cost reduction over Verisign and Thawte. You can purchase these at https://certificate.ais.msu.edu/
- Oracle requires you use their Oracle Wallet product if you want to run your web site with SSL. The documentation is poor for this, the command-line "mkwallet" documentation doesn't exist, and once again their support is horrible.
