Numbers '09 "Freeze Panes"

I'm not a heavy spreadsheet user, but I do keep a log of our servers and when they backup. I prefer to have each server as a column heading, then the dates down the left side as the row heading. In Excel I would use the "freeze pane" feature to lock the column and row headings so no matter where I went in the spreadsheet I could see them. Myself, I prefer to use Numbers over Excel, and I haven't found a "freeze panes" feature in that program. In Numbers '09 I looked as well, but still couldn't find such a named feature. In fact, when I open the Excel spreadsheet in Numbers it tells me that it doesn't support "freeze panes". Picture 1.pngHowever, Numbers (at least '09, not sure if '08 had this) has a feature called "Freeze Header Rows" and "Freeze Header Columns", which does the same thing! To use this do the following:
  • Open Numbers '09
  • Create a new table
  • Select one of the cells in the header row or column
  • Open the Inspector
  • Go to the "Tables" option in Inspector
  • Find the button to identify a row or column as a header, then click the button for a drop-down list
  • Select the "Freeze Header Rows" option
