The book "1984"

Well I was reading 1984 but returned it to the library. I was disappointed in how much immorality was featured in the book with the main character. Not sure how it ends, but I can only guess. I know this book as written a while ago, in fact the older lady at the library that helped me find the book said she had to read it when she was in school. I'm surprised that even back in 1949 this type of literature was out.
