Another server down
On my way to meet the service group today I received a call from the lab I use to work at on the campus at MSU. Their server took a dive and they needed some help getting it back up. Seems it wouldn't power on although the power lights were on. I had them try resetting it, even pulling the plug, but it just wouldn't boot up. I suggested a call to Dell but that didn't yield much more then a "check the ESM", which I only know how to do if the system is booted up.
This is the second server that I've had to deal with in less then a week. Last Thursday, just as I was leaving work to meet the CO our backup server at work died, corrupted hard drive. I hadn't setup the RAID yet as we wanted to keep the old drive, with the old Linux software and backups, intact for a few weeks. So after I left, met the CO, had the meeting at the KH, I drove back to work around 11:30pm and worked until 4:30a, drove home and worked for another hour via VPN. I finally fell into bed around 6:00a.
Sometimes I hate computers.
