Spotlight Index of external drive

As I mentioned earlier, Spotlight did an index of my external backup drive with my complete system backup.  This causes Spotlight to show duplicate results when I do a Spotlight search, but at least it shows the location by adding a suffix to the file (- Backup or - Macintosh HD) which is nice.
Looking through the preferences for Spotlight though I found a way to tell it not to index, or to hide the index, of a file, folder or drive under the Privacy tab (see picture).  I just dragged the Backup drive into this area and now when I do a Spotlight search no more duplicates.  Those Apple guys think of everything!

When you unplug the drive and later plug it back it, does it attempt to reindex?

No, it remembers the drive is excluded and continues to not show it in the indexed results.
