Apple Address Book LDAP Lookup for Active Directory

2008-07-10_1617.pngSo I always seem to lose these settings so I thought I'd blog them so I have them for posterity. Here at the University there is a LDAP server for finding people on campus. However, our department falls under a different group for technology, so sometimes I need to email users on this Exchange system but don't know (or am too lazy to type) their email address. While a little tricker to do, I was able to configure my Address Book in Mac OS X 10.5 to query Microsoft Active Directory for the users account information. To do this you need to create an LDAP entry with the following settings:
  1. Name: (whatever you want)
  2. Server: team-dc5.hc.msu.edu
  3. Port: 389
  4. Use SSL: False
  5. Search Base: dc=hc,dc=msu,dc=edu
  6. Scope: Subtree
  7. Authentication: Simple
  8. User name: (your HIT network username, must start with "MSUFGP\" and then the value)
  9. Password: (your HIT network password)
